The White Grapes

Each of these three grapes is used to make single-varietal wines (i.e. Chardonnay grapes are used to make Chardonnay wine). I have placed them in order from lightest in body and less intense in flavor to fuller body and more intensely flavored. So, generally, Riesling is the lightest and most delicate of the three whites listed, while Chardonnay is the most full-bodied and boldest flavored of the three. Keep in mind that wine styles vary tremendously. There are always exceptions, but these rules of thumb generally hold true. Don't forget, while these are the most common white wine grapes, there are dozens of other white grape varieties used to make wine nowadays. But hey, we need to start somewhere.
