Basic Juice Review

Bodega Pirineos, ‘Moristel’ 2001

**** (4-Stars)

Price: $10

Producer: Bodega Pirineos

Origin: Somontano DOC, Spain (Northeastern Spain)

Type of wine: Dry red wine made from the native Moristel grape

Try it with: Grilled chicken with pesto sauce, fresh tomatoes with mozzarella and basil

Date Reviewed: June 2004

This is a great tasting wine at a terrific price from a relatively unknown region of Northeastern Spain. Bodega Pirineos reveals a ruby color with some inky undertones. It offers a great gemisch of red berry, red grapefruit and earthy scents. The wine is quite tart in the mouth and has a lighter-than-expected body. There are flavors of tart red fruits followed by riper dark berries and pepper. Spain continues to raise the bar on value-priced wine.
